From Karachi to Coshocton: Raza Arif's American Dream in Halal Meat
We started our journey back in 2014 when Raza Arif moved to the United States from Karachi, Pakistan, with a suitcase full of dreams. With a background in filmmaking, he began working at a local video production company. But even as he built a career in media, his curiosity about butchering and meat cutting—a lifelong passion back home—never left him. Fast forward to 2016, and we spotted something: a gap in the U.S. market for halal meat delivery. Halal meat was in demand, and it wasn’t easy to find, especially for families who needed reliable, high-quality service. So, we decided to fill that gap, partnering with local vendors to start a halal meat delivery service.
As demand kept growing, we opened our first brick-and-mortar store in Dublin, Ohio, in late 2019. The store was a dream come true, and we were excited to welcome our first customers. But then, just one month later, COVID-19 hit. Overnight, our employees stepped back, and Raza also lost his job at the video production company. It was a double challenge, but it felt like fate giving us a nudge. So, we rolled up our sleeves, and Raza—armed with his meat-cutting skills—ran the store single-handedly, processing orders, handling deliveries, and keeping customers happy.
As people turned to online shopping, our business took off. We quickly became a go-to for customers looking for halal meat delivered to their doorsteps. By consistently providing high-quality products, we grew our customer base threefold. With increasing demand, especially for fresh, top-quality goat meat, we decided to go even bigger: it was time to control our own processing.
In early 2023, we launched "We Got Meat Farms" on a 5+ acre spread in Coshocton, Ohio, surrounded by Amish farmers whose livestock met our exacting standards. The farm allowed us to bring a higher level of quality and care to every product we delivered. Today, our farm processes more than 150 animals each week, serving customers in nearby states like Illinois.
